Meeting the needs of our regional area.

Housing is top of mind for rural communities across the country – and for the residents of the East Shore of Kootenay Lake, it’s no different.  The EAP collaborated with the Kootenay Lake Chamber of Commerce to create a forum where the housing needs, challenges and opportunities particular to the East Shore could be explored.  On June 20th, 2022, the EAP and the Chamber co-hosted a community housing discussion in Crawford Bay.

The event was well attended by local members of the community and members of the Kootenay Lake Chamber. MLA Brittny Anderson, Area Director, Garry Jackman, and a representative of the Columbia Basin Trust were also present.  Issues that were identified during the session include:

  • finding housing solutions specifically tailored to the needs of the Kootenay Lake community
  • challenges and recent advances that have been made in the provision of senior’s housing in the area
  • challenges surrounding attracting residents and providing housing while also preserving the character and environmental health of the area
  • funding opportunities for housing developments
